An increasing number of citizens in the eastern area of the Lincoln Land Community College district are taking advantage of the higher education services offered through the Eastern Region Education Center (EREC) in Taylorville.
This growing facility has experienced yearly increases in enrollment since 2001. As a result, the decision was made to replace the current modular buildings with a more permanent and learning-conducive facility.
The EREC facility will house four classrooms and a computer lab, providing the much-needed space for educational programs and services. In keeping with the LLLC mission, the EREC project will ensure that higher education programs are accessible, affordable and responsive to the residents of Taylorville and the surrounding communities.
In 2003, the State of Illinois committed $666,300 to the project, as part of its statewide investment of $50 million in community colleges.
To date, gifts and pledges totaling the match amount have been secured. Support is still needed for equipment, furniture and other student related needs.
