Meet our alums...

Adam Pallai graduated from LLCC in 2004.  He is now a successful engineer at Martin Engineering in Springfield.  He was a featured speaker at a 40th anniversary event celebrating LLCC's Founders Day.

“I chose Lincoln Land for both the convenience and quality of education that I knew I would receive. Throughout my two years here, I found the school to be everything I expected. Even when looking for universities to transfer to after I received my associates degree, I became aware of LLCC’s solid reputation around the state.

"Other fine memories include the student clubs and organizations. From backpacking in the Great Smoky Mountains with the environmental biology club to walking the streets of Disneyland with fellow Phi Theta Kappa members, I met many close friends and had a variety of good times while here at Lincoln Land.”

Joel Lovelace is a 1984 LLCC graduate and now Chief of the Division of Strategic Planning, Employee Benefits and Security Administration with the U. S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C.  Joel earned his Associate in Arts in Political Science and Mathematics with honors. While at LLCC.  He was also a member of the baseball team and served on the Student Senate. Upon graduation, Joel traveled south to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned both bachelor’s and
master’s degrees. Today, Joel and his wife, Beth Arthur, who serves as Sheriff of Arlington County, reside in Arlington, Virginia, with their two children, Kenneth and Stephen.

Joel’s path to LLCC was paved by his father, James, who was among the college’s first students when its doors opened in temporary facilities in the late 1960s.

“I think of my LLCC days fondly.  As an incoming freshman, I showed an interest in political science but was unsure, and certainly unaware, of how a political science degree could translate into permanent work other than teaching. I remember that seminal moment when John Whitney (teaching State and Local Government) opened my eyes to the discipline of public administration...I’ll always be thankful to John for enlightening me to the world of professional public administration and showing enough interest in me to spend the time to explore those opportunities.

“At LLCC, I experienced a cadre of highly motivated teachers in small class sizes really challenging their students. My experience has made me a lifelong proponent of community colleges."
